There are two main types of incline conveyors: standard incline conveyors and steep incline conveyors. If you aren’t sure which of the two to invest in, Cambelt outlines the main differences and discusses which is best.
The Purpose of a Conveyor
Incline conveyors are systems that move materials up a moderately inclined plane. Like incline conveyors, steep incline conveyors also move materials up an inclined plane.
So, What’s the Difference?
They both sound like they do the same thing. What’s the difference? While incline conveyors and steep incline conveyors serve a similar purpose, a few key differences set them apart.
Angle
The main difference between the two is their angle. Incline conveyors have an angle of up to 18 degrees, while steep incline conveyors can have an angle of up to 90 degrees—hence why they’re called “steep” incline” systems.
Spatial Footprint
Don’t have a lot of room in your warehouse? Steep incline conveyors take up much less space than incline conveyors thanks to their reduced length.
Capacity
In terms of overall capacity, incline conveyors win out. Steep incline conveyors have sidewalls that take up part of the belt, thus reducing capacity. Incline conveyors don’t have these barriers, increasing their usable belt width.
Number of Transfers
Incline conveyors have several transfers; steep incline conveyors have considerably fewer due to their various configuration options.
Which to Choose
Both conveyors have pros and cons; neither is inherently better than the other; they’re just best suited to different situations. If space is a significant concern for you, steep incline conveyors create less of a footprint. But if space isn’t a concern, incline conveyors allow you to manage a greater capacity of materials. When choosing, consider your facility’s needs and which system would suit them best.
